The City's vision statement to ensure sustainability of its waste management services is, "To lead and support a community that avoids waste generation, reduces environmental impacts and consider the waste that is produced as a valuable resource to be recovered, reused and recycled."
Schools can access free waste education incursions and excursions focusing on waste avoidance, creative reuse of resources and effective recycling.
The City can provide free bus travel to and from Henderson Waste Recovery Park. Students will learn about landfill, waste separation and resource recovery.

The City offers school incursions/workshops and waste education program on the following topics:
- What is waste, waste reduction, why we should reduce the waste we generate (Y5-12)
- Food waste (Y5-12)
- Plastics and plastic waste (Y5-12)
- Fashion and textile waste (Y5-12).
The City’s waste education team can also tailor activities to your school’s needs which includes:
- Composting and worm farming workshops
- Giant board game
- Memory game
- School waste audits
- Port Coogee Marina Seabin excursion and presentation
- 'Which bin?' game
- Toys/clothes swaps
- Beeswax wrap demo
- KABC Adopt-a-spot school clean ups.
Schools can borrow the City's mobile waste education trailer which contains resources on how to reduce, re-use and recycle, as well as fun activities and games.

School Recycling Hubs
Waste Education team offer recycling hubs to local schools (free of charge) to encourage recycling of batteries, light globes, small e-waste and printer
cartridges as well as separate recycling hubs for aerosols as these items do not belong in either the general waste or recycling bins.
