Council's decision on proposed Croatia trip

Cockburn Council has deferred a proposed delegation comprising the Mayor and up to three Councillors to its sister city of Split in Croatia, planned for July this year.

The decision was made at the City of Cockburn’s first Ordinary Council Meeting for 2024, on 13 February.

The Council agreed the cost of sending the delegation to Croatia could not be justified in the public interest at a time when many sections of the community were experiencing cost of living pressures.

The delegation was planned in response to an invitation from the Mayor of Split to reciprocate a visit hosted by the City of Cockburn in October 2023, which celebrated the 25th anniversary of the long-standing sister city relationship.

The proposed visit will be reconsidered in the future by the City’s Sister City Reference Group.
