The City’s health services has an ongoing sampling program in place, whereby the microbiological component of potable water is analysed at several public premises within the City. This includes non-scheme drinking water.
Many of the rural and resource-zoned properties within the City of Cockburn rely on a rainwater tank, a bore supply, or a combination of both. A minimum sized tank of 90,000 litres should be sufficient for most families' water needs, but a larger sized tank will give you greater reserve during the drier months.
The City recommends installing a 40mm diameter "cam-lok" coupling at the base of the tank. This will assist in flushing the tank during cleaning as well as providing a water source for firefighters in an emergency.
The City does not test scheme water. Please contact the Water Corporation for any queries relating to scheme water.
The City's Health Services test all public swimming pools and spas in Cockburn each month to check water safety. This is to make sure that public swimming pools and spas comply with the Code of Practice for the Design, Construction, Operation, Management and Maintenance of Aquatic Facilities.
During the summer months, the City conducts monthly bacteriological sampling of ocean water at Jervoise Bay, Woodman Point, Coogee Beach, Port Coogee
John Graham Reserve beach, and Robbs Jetty dog beach. This program is part of a state wide study of the quality of ocean waters coordinated by the Department of Health.
