The Food Sensations® program aims to improve knowledge, attitudes and skills around nutritious foods. Each session provides:
- One hour of learning on a particular subject
- Group cooking session
- Shared meal.
There are three programs to choose from:
Food Sensations for Adults
The Food Sensations for Adults program runs for four (4) weeks and covers a range of topics including:

Reading labels and selecting ingredients

Budgeting and meal planning

Healthy lunchbox and snack ideas

Food safety.
Note: Actual topics may vary between programs and sessions.
Food Sensations for Children
The Food Sensations for Children program (previously known as Food Sensations for Parents) is open to parents, grandparents and carers of children 0-5 years old. A free creche is provided for children but they are encouraged to join the group for the shared meal.
Note: Parents / carers are expected to attend all sessions. (illness excepted)
The program runs for five (5) weeks and covers a range of topics including:

Amounts, textures and types of food for each childhood development stage

Tools and tips to make mealtimes joyful

Healthy eating for the whole family
Healthy snack and lunchbox ideas.
Note: Food Sensations for Children is also offered online through zoom. Go to the Food Bank WA website for details on how to register.
Healthy Food for All Abilities
A four week nutrition education and cooking program for people with disability and support workers. Learn about nutrition and how to plan, select and cook healthy meals.
Over four weeks learn important skills including:
- How to choose healthy foods
- Amount and types of foods to eat each day for health and wellbeing
- How to cook and prepare easy, healthy and tasty meals
During each 2.5 hour session, you will get to know other participants in the program and learn about healthy eating through fun and engaging activities. You will also cook tasty new recipes and enjoy a meal with the new people you have met.
Each week you get free recipes to take away so you can continue to cook at home, as well as other great resources including a healthy eating plate.
If you are a person with disability, then this cooking program is free for you and your support worker.
Food Sensations for Men
The Food Sensations for Men program is open to males over 16 who wish to improve their knowledge of healthy eating and skills in preparing healthy meals. Topics include:
- Reading labels and selecting ingredients
- Budgeting and meal planning
- Food safety.
Who can participate in the program?
The Food Sensations® program is free and available for all residents and we accomodate all dietary requirements. If you would like to learn about eating healthier without breaking the bank, then this program is for you.
